About Us
We are Jay and Mary, the current custodians of Bryansford Cottage and the hosts to make your stay the very best it can be.
“I’m Jay, originally from Falkirk in Scotland (and a very proud Scot). I spent many years in London working in careers as diverse as theatre, the judicial service and the charity sector. I am also a trained psychotherapist, I’m really interested in people and what makes them tick. Laterally, I’ve taken on the role of chief house restorer for this beautiful property we are lucky enough to call home. I’ve been involved in every aspect of the renovations we’ve undertaken on the property since we moved in 2016.
I began visiting this area when I met Mary in 2006 and over the years came to realise just how special this place is. Being sandwiched between the mountains and sea I realised just what a haven it was and what a super place it was to spend a few days relaxing. I’m glad we’ve been able to create a stunning location for people to come and enjoy a home away from home immersed in these beautiful surroundings.”
“I’m Mary, I grew up 3 miles away in Newcastle Co. Down. Always outdoorsy, I spent a chunk of my childhood in or on the water, in the forest or up the mountains. After university in Dublin, I decamped to London where I spent the best part of two decades working as a lawyer and company director in renewable energy and sustainable development. While in London I also met Jay, got married and started our family. In spite of my acquired status as a committed Londoner, I moved back to this area in 2015.
I’m a passionate environmentalist and still happiest when outdoors. You are likely to find me in the Irish Sea at all times of the year and in neighbouring Tollymore Forest with our dog Dougal. I’m also fascinated by what makes us thrive physically and mentally, including good sleep, nutrition and relaxation. All of which are key aspects of the service we aim to provide here at Bryansford Cottage.”
